”This year’s Wroclaw Global Forum, which is an internationally recognised and prestigious event, will be organised for the fifth time in a row. The list of the guests to visit Wroclaw and attend the event is the best evidence to prove this,” says Wroclaw’s Deputy Mayor, Adam Grehl. “The event embodies the idea of 'Wroclaw as the city of encounters’, as it serves as the opportunity to encounter people, ideas, the residents of Wroclaw and their guests, politicians, social activists and entrepreneurs.”
The fifth edition of the Wroclaw Global Forum will start on 5 June and will come to an end on Sunday 7 June.
The event is organised by the Municipality of Wroclaw, Polish Institute for International Affairs and Atlantic Council. While the event is held under the patronage of the Polish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, this year’s edition was awarded the honorary patronage from the President of the Republic of Poland to celebrate the twenty-fifth anniversary of Poland’s freedom. Institutional partners of the event include the Embassy of the United States in Poland. The WGF project is co-financed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
”President Bronisław Komorowski, Deputy Prime Minister Elżbieta Bieńskowska and Minister of Foreign Affairs Radosław Sikorski have already confirmed their participation in the event,” says the Head of Convention Bureau, Magdalena Piasecka. “The representative of the US Congress, Including Senator John McCainn, are also expected to attend. We will have 450 guests in total. The Wroclaw Global Forum, with its meetings and debates, will be primarily held at the Wroclaw Conference Centre, but the opening of the event is scheduled to take place at the Wroclaw Opera House.
Safety in Europe
Marcin Zaborowski, Head of the Polish Institute for Foreign Affairs, asserts: “The Wroclaw Global Forum is the largest Trans-Atlantic conference on safety in this part of Europe. The event would not enjoy such esteem if it was not for the commitment of Wroclaw’s Mayor, Rafał Dutkiewicz, and his team.
The organisers expect that this year’s WGF will primarily focus on Ukraine. “One or two years back, as we were planning the agenda of the following Wroclaw Global Forum, we could not predict the events in Ukraine”, says Michał Kobosko, Head of both the Atlantic Council and Wroclaw Global Forum. “Safety in Europe is now the most important issue that we need to discuss.”
