Outdoor recreation, especially in good weather, is what Wroclaw's residents like the most. This is why open-air bars and restaurants are very popular in the summer season. Those who cannot wait for them to open can be assured that this year, too, they will be able to enjoy a glass of their favourite beverage outdoors.
Cafés on the water near Wyspa Słodowa
Luckily, the revamp of the Wroclaw Water Junction will not interfere with the plans to open the restaurants on the barges and pontoons moored at Wyspa Słodowa. One of them has already been opened and the others will open during the first weekend of May.
"There will be some surprises in the new season", said Mateusz Stańczyk of Event Time, the company responsible for one of the barges moored at the island. "First, we intend to start activities that will enliven our unit. We are considering a jazz session and we want to promote the idea of sharing. On selected days, people will be able to bring their things: from small items, through books, toys, to clothes, and exchange them with others. Secondly, we want to invite craftsmen from Nadodrze and its vicinity", he added.
This season, in addition to the boats and barges that everyone is familiar with, one more will appear. The new restaurant-catering platform is to be an open space, with beach chairs and recycled furniture. It is already moored at the tip of Wyspa Słodowa.
A pizzeria and a café on wheels
At the entrance to Wyspa Słodowa, opposite to the Tumski Hotel, two large vehicles are parked; one is a mobile café and the other - a mobile pizzeria. Taho Café and Happy Little Truck organize daily local campaigns. You can take a seat at the tables or use the beach chairs, drink some lemonade and have a pizza. The new locales are opened daily from 12.00 PM to 6.00 PM.
Kafe Plaża and Kafe Szalet
Both open-air cafés will open during the first long weekend of May. There are some changes to be expected: Kafe Plaża will be relocated. This is due to the revamp of the Wroclaw Water Junction, with works performed in the former location of the beach.
While Kafe Szalet will open on the 1st of May, we will need to wait a little longer for Kafe Plaża. Here, too, some changes are to be expected: Kafe Plaża will be relocated.
"This year, we will be in the vicinity of Impart at Wybrzeże Juliusza Słowackiego", said Michał Kowalski, the owner and inventor of Kafe Szalet and Kafe Plaża. "There is plenty of room there, and so we are planning a few new things. For now, we have to bring some sand. We estimate that 80 tons will be needed. In the first half of May, we will start installing a glazed pavilion", he added.
As for Kafe Szalet, the location will not change. The open-air café, located in the former municipal toilet, will continue its operations at Wzgórze Polskie. This year, too, successive editions are planned of the Rap Szalet event, which is immensely popular among young Wroclaw's residents.
Perhaps there will be one more city beach at ul. Biegasa; however, the discussions with the district council are still ongoing.
Beach chairs at the Oder
Other places where one will be able to enjoy a glass of beverage outdoor are the Wroclaw's water craft rental shops. This year, too, the Gondola Bay will open the Barge Café and beach chairs will again be set at the Most Zwierzyniecki.
