  3. Wroclaw has 300 dwarves!

Wroclaw's latest dwarf - the dwarf measures 38 centimetres with a suitcase and weighs 16 kilograms with a beard.

Wroclaw's 300. dwarf was unveiled on Saturday, 21 May, next to the Europejski Hotel at ul Piłsudskiego 88. Wroclaw's latest dwarf will be called European to make a perfect match for the adjacent hotel. The dwarf will be greeting tourist that arrive in the city.

The originators of the idea explain that Wroclaw will take over as the European Capital of Culture in 2016. The dwarf's name is also to commemorate the tenth anniversary of Poland's accession to the EU.

"The new dwarf fits in well with the idea of the event" - says Zbigniew Pasieka, Head of Marketing at Cohm, the company that manages the historic hotels on ul Piłsudskiego. "Wroclaw is growing increasingly European, and we can hear a large number of foreign visitors in the streets. It is tourists that lend a European atmosphere to the city. Our latest dwarf will serve as a showpiece of this new European Wroclaw and a patron for all the tourists that arrive in the city."

Marek Mikłaszewski, who works as the Wroclaw dwarf chat room administrator, says that dwarves have been the symbol of the city for a few years now and that they draw a lot of interest from tourists.

Dwarf No. 300 sounds marvellous "Each time we were giving directions to visitors, tourists and school excursions that wanted to reach the new Capitol Theatre from the Central Railway Station, we would notice that there's a European missing somehere on the way," adds Marek Mikłaszewski.

The dwarf's design was created and executed by Beata Zwolańska-Hołod. The artist, who graduated from the Faculty of Sculpture at the Academy of Fine Arts in Wroclaw, has designed the vast majority of Wroclaw's dwarves.

The dwarf brings change to ul. Piłsudskiego

"The new dwarf fits in well with the project to modernise ul Piłsudskiego. The openiing of the historic Piast Hotel is coming soon and we wanteed to give a kick to this particular part of the city as it deserves to return to its former glory," adds Piotr Wiak, Head of Marketing at Rafin, which is the owner of the historic buildings in the area.

And this means that the list of the renovated buildings in the area, with such landmarks as the Central Railway Station and the Capitol Theatre, will be even longer.
