Vernissage of the exhibition devoted to W-hour
The Lower Silesia Centre for Photography "Romanesque House" is planning to open the exhibition "Warsaw Uprising. 70th Anniversary" to commemorate the 70th anniversary of outbreak of the Warsaw Uprising. Photographs of the Uprising were taken by eminent photographers: Stefan Bałuk, Sylwester Braun nom de guerre Kris, Tadeusz Bukowski, Wiesław Chrzanowski, Jerzy Tomaszewski, Józef Jerzy Karpiński and Leonard Sempoliński.
The photographs reproduced in the book and presented in the exhibition are one of the most pertinent and outstanding works that now serve as evidence of the Warsaw Uprising. Even though they cannot convey, even in the slightest, the tragedy of the Uprising and the enormous heroism of the fighters and civilians, they leave a powerful and distinctive mark on their viewers. These barium copies come from a private collection and were used to create large format works that emphatically show the human tragedy of the Uprising and the destruction of the city.
A catalogue will be published in Polish and English to document the exhibition. Photographs are open to the public until 27 September from Monday to Saturday between 10.00-18.00.

10 August: amazing show in Wroclaw's Main Market Square
The reconstruction will aim to show the attempts that both the resistance fighters and civilians of Warsaw made to save the remains of normal life in the thick of military activity. The show will feature a wedding ceremony given by a priest during the break in combat. The ceremony will be interrupted by a raid from the JU-87 Stuka dive bomber plane. Those who attend the event will as be able learn more about the work of the insurgent mail service, whose couriers reached all the fighters and often laid their lives to deliver their letters. The show will also present the tragic events of 13 August 1944, when the explosion of 450-kg bomb on ul Kilińskiego in Warsaw's Old Town killed at least 300 soldiers and civilians. The massacre went down as one of the most tragic events in the history of the Warsaw Uprising and was caused by the Nazis using Borgward B IV vehicles. The vehicles were hitherto unknown to resistance fighters.
This year's events in the Main Market Square will feature historic military equipment, stun guns and grenades and pyrotechnic shows. Approximately 200 actors and extras, including members of various reconstruction groups that gather people passionate about history, will take part in the reconstruction. There will also be stuntmen, music and sound effects. The events will be also accompanied by comments from a professional voice-over artist.
The event starts at 4 pm.
