The Old Clinics, a Neo-Gothic complex of over ten buildings of the Medical university, are one of the most interesting places used by universities.
It was built at the end of the 19th century on a five-hectare plot of land between the current Chałubińskiego, Mikulicza-Radeckiego, Pasteura, and Skłodowskiej-Curie streets. The author of the concept of the construction of the clinical hospitals was Ludwig von Tiedemann who also designed a similar complex in Halle. The detailed plan was prepared by Joseph Waldhausen.
After World War II, the campus was used by a medical school, but the historical buildings became dilapidated. Later, the red brick buildings were provided with concrete annex buildings..
In 2012, a two years long repair of five out of the over ten buildings was completed. The renovated buildings, which include the Chairs of Correct Anatomy and Pharmacology, and the Forensic Medicine Institute , look excellent. Their roofs are repaired, new wooden windows (green in all buildings) were installed, missing bricks were replaced, and the façades were cleaned. Even the impressive stack of the old hospital boiler house was cleaned. Stylish benches and signs were put in the garden between the buildings.
The cost of the repair was over PLN 12 million.
