TKt48-18 steam locomotive

The TKt48-18 locomotive was produced as part of the "first series” in the Józef Stalin Metal Plant in Poznań in 1951. It has the manufacturer’s factory number 1544. The locomotive is fitted with a steam boiler made in the Boiler & Mechanical Equipment Plant in Sosnowiec in 1955. In 1995, the locomotive was transferred to the Open-Air Museum of Steam Locomotives in Jaworzyna Śląska, where it fell into ruin after its withdrawal from use. In 2006, it was subjected to a major repair and returned to railway tracks of Lower Silesia. The locomotive is used for organising occasional retro rides and film productions, such as “Afonia i Pszczoły” (Afonia and the Bees) – a film by Jan Jakub Kolski from 2006 or “Letnie Przesilenie” (Summer Solstice) – a film by Michał Rogalski from 2013.

On the 23rd of September 2013, a major repair of the Jaworzyna steam locomotive began, including, among others, a replacement of essential parts of the locomotive boiler and a repair of the locomotive running gear. Part of the works was financed from the funds of the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage of the Republic of Poland.
