  3. Partynice: Ditch, Wall, the Small English [VIDEO]

The idea for steeplechase was born from landowners' search for new entertainment. Apart from hunting, the chases leading through fields, meadows and forests were a popular way of spending time. On the way there were natural obstacles to be negotiated: streams, border walls between estates, clomps of shrubs, or hills. With times the obstacles were classified, but shrubs and ditches remain today the fixed part of the races.

The Wrocław's Partynice Racetrack also organizes chases, and the track includes over 20 types of various obstacles. The most difficult one is the Grandstand Jump - right in front of the grandstand. The rest is located inside the track. Intriguing are the original names of some the obstacles, and their forms: the Large English Jump, the Small English Jump, or the Ground Bank.

Apart from that, the Partynice track organizes hurdle chases, where the obstacles have the form of wooden fences, crowned with clumps of brushy twigs.

Piotr Pękala, a horse racing specialist, talks about obstacles on Partynice Racetrack.

Sunday, June 22nd will be the sixth race day on Partynice track, as well as the Olympics Picnic.

The programme includes races of thoroughbreds and Arabians, as well as harness races.

Also, the Memorial of Kasia Litwiniuk, the first Polish female rider to have won the Derby, is planned for Sunday.

Races at Partynice Racetrack (ul. Zwycięska 2) will commence on Sunday, June 22nd at 14.15. Entrance is free.

However, it is worth coming to Partynice from 11 o'clock, for the 4th Olimpics Picnic, the programme of which will include judo and kendo demonstrations, gymnastics and sports acrobatics, weightlifting, archery, as well as a duel of two fencing champions: Leszek Rajski and Andrzej Rządkowski, as well as boxers: Maciej Zegan and Wojciech Bartnik. There will also be a skill show of volleyball players of Impel Wrocław.

The programme will also feature presentations of firemen from Kobierzyce and Board Guard officers.
