Trout, grayling, huchen, carp, bream, asp, pike, tench, rudd, bleak and even flounder are the residents of the Oder River that will find accommodation in the water tanks of the newly developed Odrarium..
The main part of the construction work has come to an end. The heaps of earth and the tangle of scaffolding have turned into a large recreational and educational complex that includes water tanks and corridors and tunnels for the visitors to enjoy the view of the Oder underwater wildlife. At the moment, a lift for disabled persons in being installed. The work is to be completed with the installation of the machine that produces artificial waves such as those in the Oder estuary. Small architecture springs up in the vicinity, and the work on the "green roofs" of the buildings is expected to start soon. The plants will also around the pools and in their surroundings.
"The complex has four different water tanks to present four different zones in the river: the upper Oder, the middle Oder, the old river bed and the Oder estuary," says the Head of Wroclaw's Zoo, Radosław Ratajszczak. "The fish will be put to the tanks next week, and the visitors will be invited two weeks later," he adds.
Apart from the animals from the Oder River, the Odrarium will also have an educational trail to ellucidate on the history of the Oder River and the issue of pollution.
