Future appearance of Sukiennice [VISUALIZATIONS]

The winning bid with the concept and the design for the revamp and repair of the buildings at 12-15 Sukiennice Street has been selected. The concept assumes arrangement of premises with the surface area of 448 square meters, to include 250 square meters of retail space. The plans involve new entrances, to include the main entrance on the side of the Pillory and 9 additional entrances along the Przejście Sukiennicze.

Retail, a café, and exhibitions

As a result of the revamp, 16 retail stands will be established, to include 4 that will be closed separately, one café, and a store for the building's operator. Also, the basement under the building at Sukiennice 12 will be used - it will be used as an exhibition and retail space. The main axis of communication will run in the east-west direction.

"During the conceptual work, attention was paid to the need to correct the architectural decoration of the façade. Also, the visual space will be rearranged so as to provide room for signboards and information. The designers looked for details, such as bas-reliefs, that would contain information that building no. 13 is the "House of the Elephant" located next to the "House of the Golden Angel". Nowadays hardly anyone uses those names but, who knows, perhaps in 2 years they will be used. This will facilitate the identification of the entrance", said Mariola Apanel from the Project Management Office of the Wroclaw's City Hall.

The winning bid was prepared by the studio of Maciej Małachowicz. In 2014, the municipality is planning to reserve funds for revamping the Sukiennice Street and in the fall the building permit will be issued. In 2015, the contractor for the works will be selected. Also in 2015 the operator who will lease and will manage the tourist retail gallery will be selected.

According to the plans, the retails stands are to open in 2016.
